Recently, I had the pleasure of creating a part of the interior for the recently opened @akai.restaurant in Hamburg-Ottensen — a Japanese–Northern German fusion kitchen. The abstract calligraphy I contributed takes its cues from the restaurant’s design, where deep, flowing red tones meet sleek silver accents. If you're craving good food: Now you know where to go. It was a fun challenge for me — my last mural was quite a while ago. Big thanks to @akai.restaurant & @paddy_pilgrim for the trust!

Painted a poncho again after a long time and had so much fun in the process. Even when you're writing without words you can say a lot. I really want to do more artwork like this.
Trying something new with some old and new clips & artwork.
Short reel from November 2023 when I spent some hours working with projections from some old calligraphy sketches ✌🏻
Animating calligraphy as 3D sculptures.
Calligraphic Mirror. Acrylic Molotow paint on wood, written with a flat DaVinci brush. The writing is taken from the song "Perseverance" by the band Hatebreed. Contrary to the name of the band, the lyrics are very uplifting: "Perseverance, Against all opposition, Crushing all limitations.". Nothing more needs to be said.
Started a new sketchbook some weeks ago and decided to paint the covers - just like I did with all of my calligraphy sketchbooks before. Black, gestural writing with some nice grey outlines seemed like the right choice for the red canvas underneath. Very excited to fill this sketchbook, how long will it take?
When is an artwork finished? This question is not easy to answer. I myself fail pretty regularly in this regard, as I don't finish a lot of personal projects. They just don't have the necessary priority one day and all of a sudden I forget about them for half a year. This happened with this painting as well. The first sketch was done in early spring this year, and then I forgot about it. Since then, it has been bothering me, so I decided to change that. I just decided to start experimenting and see where it'll lead me. The end result is not what I had in mind and some aspects of the painting bother me, but I'm happy that it's finished and that there's room for new projects.
"It doesn't matter what we do. What we do is all that matters" @foundationatl has clearly put into words what I interpret as the right way to live, especially in this time when politics is moving to the right and becoming more hostile every day, posing a threat to everyone's future. Even when things seem grim at this moment, we shouldn't resign but instead advocate and fight for a better future.
Dispelling the magic, writing just takes time. No fancy shortcuts, you just gotta commit. Text is by the legendary HC band @terrorhardcore from the track 'Stick tight'. Saw them in August and even got to finish the song 'Keepers of the faith' on stage. Simply love these guys to death and hope to see them live many more times
One of my fave records from the last year, Exhibition of Process from @kublaikhantx - animated poster with custom calligraphy.
